Résumé du poste

Le/La post-doctorant.e sera recruté.e pour deux ans à partir du 1er mars 2023 dans le cadre du programme de recherche ANR WomenSOFar (ANR-21-CE03-0008) https://womensofar.hypotheses.org/
L’objectif est de documenter la diversité des organisations sociales et le rôle des femmes dans les premières communautés d’agropasteurs (Ve-IVe mill. av. notre ère) en France et Méditerranée.
Le projet s’organise autour d’une approche multidisciplinaire et holistique de l’étude des restes humains et se propose d’identifier déférentes interactions possibles entre la biologie, les comportements et l’environnement. L’une des approches de ce projet est l’étude biomécanique du squelette humain an de déterminer les gestes quotidiens des individus, aux échelles intra et inter populationnelle, selon le sexe et l’âge individuel. Les outils utilisés seront les propriétés géométriques de section d’os longs et l’observation de variations anatomiques et pathologiques du squelette. Le rôle du/de la post-doctorant.e sera de caractériser l’impact des contraintes biomécaniques sur la morphologie des sections osseuses des sujets adultes et immatures afin :
– d’appréhender les relations complexes entre la santé et l’activité de sujets en corrélant une analyse biomécanique aux détails histologiques (allométrie, stress biologique…) ;
– d’appréhender des schémas comportementaux : âge d’acquisition de la bipédie, division sociales des tâches selon l’âge et/ou le sexe, diète, migration…

Le/La post-doctorant.e mènera ses activités au sein de l’UMR5199 PACEA à l’Université de Bordeaux sous la direction de :

Profil attendu

Diplôme : doctorat en anthropologie biologique/archéologie funéraire/biologie
Compétences recherchées :
– Maîtrise de logiciels de visualisation 3D et d’analyse de données scientiques : Avizo et ImageJ

– Maîtrise de logiciels d’analyse de données statistiques : SPSS, R…
– Maîtrise des méthodologies de l’archéo-thanatologie et de l’étude biologique d’archives

Missions :
– Gestion et scan par tomographie de collections squelettiques humaines
– Identification et caractérisation de collections squelettiques humaine : estimation de l’âge, diagnose
sexuelle, état sanitaire, marqueurs ostéo-articulaires d’activité
– Collecte et analyse de données qualitatives et quantitatives
– Consultation sur d’autres recherches menées par l’équipe (génétique, archéologie funéraire,
isotopiques)
– Suivi de projet auprès d’étudiants
– Participation à la valorisation scientique et grand public du projet : article, communication,
séminaire…
– Des déplacements interrégionaux voire internationaux pour des colloques sont possibles

POST DOCTORAL POSITION
Biomechanics of the populations of the first agropastoral communitiesin France and the Mediterranean

Offer description : Two years position, starting on the 1st of March 2023 as part of the ANR research programme WomenSOFar (ANR-21-CE03-0008) https://womensofar.hypotheses.org/

The background of the project is to document the diversity of social organizations and the role of women in the firrst agropastoralist communities (5th-4th millennium BC) in France and the Mediterranean.
The project is organised around a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to the study of human remains and aims to identify different possible interactions between biology, behavior and the environment.
One of the scientific approaches of this project is the biomechanical study of human skeletons in order to determine the daily gestures of individuals, at the intra and inter-population levels, according to sex and age of the individuals. The tools used will be the geometric properties of long bone sections and the observation of anatomical and pathological variations of the skeleton.
The role of the post-doctoral fellow will be to characterise the impact of biomechanical constraints on the morphology of bone sections from adult
and immature individuals in order to:
– Understand the complex relationships between health and activities of the individuals by identifying correlation between biomechanical analysis with histological details (allometry, biological stress, etc.);
– Understand behavioral patterns: age of acquisition of bipedalism, social division of activities according to age and/or sex, diet, migration…
Main field of research: Biomechanical study of the human skeleton
The post-doctoral fellow will carry out his/her activities within the UMR5199 PACEA at the University of Bordeaux under the supervision of:

Qualification profile

Applicants should hold a PhD in Biological Anthropology/ Biology/ Funerary Archaeology

Job description

– Management and scan by tomography of collections of human skeletons
– Identification and characterisation of collections of human skeletons: age at death estimation, sexual diagnosis, health status, musculoskeletal stress markers
– Collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data
– Collaboration with other research carried out by the other team members (genetics, funerary archaeology, stable isotopes)
– Project follow-up with students (Master supervision)
– Diffusion to the scientific community and general public promotion of the project: article, communication, seminar…
– National and international travel for conferences is possible
