Je m’intéresse aux facteurs sous-tendant la variation phénotypique au cours de l’évolution. Mes recherches se sont principalement centrées sur l’évolution du système crânien dans le contexte de l’émergence et la diversification des tétrapodes (amphibiens, mammifères et reptiles). Mes travaux s’appuient sur l’étude de spécimens actuels et fossiles issus des collections d’histoire naturelle ainsi que sur des approches expérimentales, et suivent une approche intégrative qui allie morpho-anatomie, biologie du développement, et biomécanique comparée.
My research deals with the phenotypic evolution of vertebrates, the back-boned animals. Put in simple words, I try to understand how vertebrates became the way they are. As a case study, I am focusing on the evolution of the head. My goal is to determine the patterns of variation in head phenotype at broad evolutionary scale, and to determine what are the factors that underpin this variation. The approaches I follow encompass palaeontology, comparative anatomy and embryology, as well as functional morphology and biomechanics.
