Moulds

by Frédéric Santos - published on

Coordinator: Éric Pubert.

This facility primarily focuses on making moulds from archaeological objects and producing high-resolution replicas. The precision of the impressions and resulting moulds allow the relief created by an India ink label or slight traces of wear on archaeological objects to be reconstructed in detail.

Techniques employed

  • Partial imprints (pressure moulding) in reticulated RTV or dental putty
  • Complete two-pour silicone box casts
  • Complete two-piece silicone and plastered cast reproductions
  • Complete reproductions assembled from multiple silicone and plastered cast moulds

Main products used

  •  RTV silicone HR (with or without thixothropy agents)
  •  RTV silicone putty
  •  White Plastiline
  •  Synthetic plasters
  •  White or translucent polyurethane resin
  •  Petroleum ether
  •  Acetone

Examples

  • Two-pour silicone box mould PNG
  • Mould of a rhinoceros humerus: double silicone mould PNG
  • Silicone moulds and multiple plaster casts of a skull PNG
